Jake Vera’s "Purgatory" is a deeply introspective track that delves into Catholic themes of the afterlife, focusing on the suffering and purification required before entering heaven. The lyrics offer a haunting perspective, presenting the final, disoriented thoughts of a lost soul trapped in this transitional realm.
Quoting Jake "I’ve always been a rocker/ metal head my whole life so the writing process felt very natural and easy. There’s some very obvious and heavy Deftones influences in there but I’ve also really been into some up and coming artists lately that have really inspired me to fully embrace/ step closer towards making rock music. Amira Elfeky, Cloudyfield, Static Dress, Loathe are a few examples of some recent influences. My biggest influences vocally are definitely A Perfect Circle, Breaking Benjamin, Justin Bieber, Post Malone, and Three Days Grace"
Lyrically, Purgatory is rich with metaphor and introspection, exploring the concept of purification and self-discovery in the face of uncertainty. The song’s poetic lines paint vivid images of wandering spirits and existential reflection, drawing the listener deeper into its narrative. Vera’s ability to convey emotion through both lyrics and delivery elevates the track beyond a simple rock anthem—it becomes an experience.
